Our History

The company can trace it's roots back to 1981 when Mike Kendrick, trading as Lighter Than Air Limited used a hot-air airship to promote the soft drinks giant Pepsi; In 1987 Mike Kendrick teamed up with Hugh Band (at the time, head of marketing for Virgin Atlantic Airways) to form Airship and Balloon Company.

1987: Airship and Balloon Company joins Richard Branson's Virgin Group of companies. Richard Branson and Per Lindstrand cross the Atlantic in a hot air balloon

1989: Richard Branson and Don Cameron in April Fools Day UFO stunt. Name changed to Virgin Airship and Balloon Company

1991: Richard Branson and Per Linstrand cross the Pacific in a hot air balloon

1997: BBC launches new BBC One 'Ident' using Special Shape hot air balloon. Hasbro celebrate Action Man with the worlds most complicated Special Shape balloon

1998: ICO Global Challenger attempts non stop flight around the world

2003: Company Buyout by Nick Langley forming Airship & Balloon Company
